Transforming Vaccination Service Delivery - Protecting Scotland's Health (Regional Events)
On behalf of the Scottish Government’s Vaccination Transformation Programme (VTP), NHS Health Scotland hosted 3 regional events focusing on transforming vaccination services.
Event description
Responsibility for delivering vaccination services is transferring from General Practice / Primary Care to the wider NHS workforce as part of the Primary Care Transformation Programme.
As a result of these changes, we wish to support a wide range of stakeholders to build knowledge and understanding of the vital importance of vaccination as a public health issue in protecting our communities from the risk of vaccine-preventable diseases.
These events were aimed at:
- Health and social care service commissioners, planners and managers
- Integration Authority Chief Officers, planners and managers
- General practitioners and general practice managers
- Primary Care Improvement Plan leads, GP Sub-committee and Local Medical Committee members
- Directors of Public Health, Nursing & Midwifery
- Chief Social Work Officers
Delegates heard about progress made during the first year of the VTP and plans for Year 2.
Participants had the opportunity to increase their knowledge and understanding of:
- the complex range of vaccination programmes currently delivered to our local populations
- vaccination as a key public health issue and the potential consequences if vaccination uptake rates are not maintained / increased as services are being redesigned
- new service delivery models being developed, tested and implemented across Scotland
- the role of vaccination in reducing health inequalities, e.g. how we can improve access to vaccination services for different population groups in our communities
